Distributed SOA Framework Enables High Performance Services and an Order of Magnitude Performance Improvement for Critical Business Applications
BOULDER, Colo., April 18, 2006 — Rogue Wave Software, a division of Quovadx, Inc. (Nasdaq: QVDX) providing reusable software components and services that facilitate enterprise-class application development, today announced the general availability of version 3.0 of its new service-oriented architecture (SOA) framework, called Rogue Wave® Hydra. Rogue Wave Hydra is designed to facilitate the distribution of business processes within an application, enabling professional developers to address major service-oriented and parallel processing development challenges, while capitalizing on existing software assets.
Rogue Wave Hydra empowers IT architects and professional developers to achieve order-of-magnitude performance and throughput improvements for critical software applications. Rogue Wave Hydra is based on Rogue Wave Software's pioneering "Pipelines" technology and associated methodology, which focuses on achieving efficiency and scalability through parallel processing. Pipelines allow for efficient execution and distribution of software components or services for simultaneous processing on available resources. This peer-to-peer architecture minimizes bottlenecks and allows businesses to achieve new levels of throughput and performance. According to research firm ZapThink, 50 percent of the total services-oriented software market will have high-performance requirements by 2010.
"As the adoption of SOA continues to accelerate, the volume and size of transactions within and between software applications and enterprises will continue to increase. Many of our customers have told us that this phenomenon is impeding the scalability and performance of business-critical applications, and in turn, the growth of the business itself," said Cory Isaacson, president, Rogue Wave Software division, Quovadx. "As a result, parallel processing needs to become a mainstay in SOA environments in order to overcome these performance challenges and continue to meet business needs. Rogue Wave Hydra allows developers to run transactional business applications in parallel, exploiting available processing resources to improve application performance without compromising on critical business requirements such as ‘first-in, first-out' processing. The framework allows developers to focus on improving application functionality to meet rapidly changing business needs."
Rogue Wave Hydra was created in collaboration with several Rogue Wave design partners and proof-of-concept (PoC) customers. Seven Beta PoC implementations are underway with select PoC customers in the financial services, telecommunications and software industries. Weeden & Co., an equities trading firm specializing in difficult-to -execute securities orders, is one of these PoC customers.
"As an investment firm, performance and system resilience are paramount to our operations and business success," said Vince Manna, chief information officer, Weeden & Co. "Speed of trade execution and our ability to scale our transaction volumes in a predictable and reliable manner, are crucial to executing client's trades in an increasingly competitive market."
Capita Technologies, Inc., a leading systems integrator and Rogue Wave Software have formed a partnership that allows Capita to implement Rogue Wave Hydra technology to address high-performance application development needs for its clients. Capita primarily serves the government, consumer goods products, entertainment and financial services industries. The firm will utilize Rogue Wave Pipelines technology and methodology, its HydraAgent 3.0 product and future HydraData Components to solve critical customer application issues.
"As our customers become more dependent on data and information exchange, ensuring that our systems are responsive becomes increasingly challenging," said Charles Granville, chief executive officer, Capita Technologies. "By taking advantage of Rogue Wave Software's latest technology, we can deliver a level of application performance that was not possible before. Based on preliminary testing, we believe there are opportunities for Rogue Wave Hydra use on projects with several of our existing clients."
Rogue Wave Hydra provides support for the recently released Service Component Architecture or SCA specification. Rogue Wave Hydra is the first production-ready high-performance SOA development framework and runtime that supports and complements key concepts of the SCA architecture, including cross-platform components, tightly-and loosely-coupled service components, Web service standards, BPEL and Service Data Objects (SDO). Future releases of Rogue Wave Hydra will add further support for SCA application programming interfaces, or APIs, and will be compatible with future products from other vendors, while providing specialized capabilities for high-performance application requirements.
"Rogue Wave Software…has carved out a new top-end niche in SOA," said Dana Gardner, president and principal analyst at Interarbor Solutions, in his featured blog on ZDNet. "…The ability to take the Service Component Architecture (SCA) into the role of coalescing Java and C++ components into the same service — all tightly coupled — is an important milestone for making SOA mission critical."
"Rogue Wave Software's deep experience supporting professional developers with tools that allow them to focus on improving functionality and meeting critical timelines was key to the development of Rogue Wave Hydra," said Cory Isaacson, president, Rogue Wave Software division, Quovadx. "We look forward to continuing to support our customers' need for high-performance services and software with scalable SOA solutions that allow them to take advantage of opportunities to drive their businesses growth."
Rogue Wave Hydra Suite version 3.0 is now available, featuring the HydraAgent Runtime, the core module of the Suite. Upcoming product releases will include HydraData Components for SDO and HydraService Components, designed to work independently, or with the HydraAgent Runtime.
